5G EMF Measurement Challenges

ICECom 2023 Panel Discussion
When: Wednesday, 27 September 2023, 14:30 - 16:30
Where: Hall C, CAAS, Don Frana Bulića 4, Dubrovnik
With the implementation and deployment of 5G networks, a number of questions and doubts regarding the methodology for measuring non-ionizing radiation from 5G networks in mobile communications have been raised. The measurement methods that are mostly used for the 5G base station exposure assessment are frequency selective and code selective method. Differences in the purpose of individual methods, their complexity and applicability, cause numerous challenges that measurers deal with on a daily basis. These challenges will be the focus of this roundtable discussion, where participants will address open questions, clarify potential doubts, and exchange knowledge and experience. The roundtable will involve representatives from HAKOM (Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries), the academic community, operators, equipment manufacturers, and measurement companies. Among other topics, the discussion will cover:
• Specifics related to measuring non-ionizing radiation
• Methodology for measuring non-ionizing radiation from 5G networks in mobile communications
• Results of conducted 5G measurement campaigns
The Panel Discussion will be held either in Croatian or in English, subject to further notice.
